What does ALS progression rate (progression value) mean?

The ALS progression rate (ALSPR) or ALS progression score is the progression of symptoms over the course of the disease . The ALS Functional Rating Scale (ALSFRS-R, ►question 109) is used to determine progression. The maximum total score of the ALS Functional Rating Scale is 48 points. With this score, there is no recognizable motor deficit. ALS progression can be determined on the basis of the decrease in ALSFRS-R points per month.

With a medium progression rate, there is a decrease of 1 scale point per month. Patients with a high progression rate show a decrease of more than 1.5 scale points per month. At the same time, a low rate of progression is also possible, with a decrease of less than 0.5 scale points per month.
