Jena University Hospital is currently conducting a study on the topic of “physical exertion and ALS.”
The aim of the study is to better understand possible links between physical activity over the course of a lifetime and the development of ALS.
Ambulanzpartner supports this important research work and informs patients within the Ambulanzpartner network about the opportunity to participate.
Why is the study important?
Clinical observations and scientific studies to date suggest that people with ALS were often very physically active. However, it has not yet been sufficiently clarified whether—and to what extent—intense physical exertion influences the risk of developing ALS.
To better investigate this question, the support of people with ALS and their families is particularly important.
We therefore greatly appreciate your support.
How can you participate?
Two questionnaire formats are available for the study. Both provide important information and complement each other. We would therefore appreciate it if you could participate in both surveys.
- Short questionnaire in the ALS app or the Ambulanzpartner account
The short questionnaire is aimed exclusively at people with ALS and comprises 10 questions.

As part of the study, please also complete a current ALSFRS questionnaire if possible.
- Detailed questionnaire via the study link:
The detailed questionnaire is aimed at both people with ALS and people without ALS as a comparison group.
At the beginning of the survey, please indicate whether you are participating as a person with ALS or without ALS.
You are also welcome to draw the attention of family members to the study and invite them to participate.
The questionnaire covers four thematic areas: lifestyle and living conditions.

Information regarding ALS (for people with ALS only). Filling this out takes about 20–30 minutes.
