Three years of internet-based supply management of medical aids with AmbulanzPartner – presentation at Neurowoche 2014

At the Neurowoche 2014 together with the 87th Congress of the German Society of Neurology (DGN) on September 16, 2014 in Munich, the results of three years of Internet-based care management of assistive devices in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) with AmbulanzPartner will be presented in the scientific program.

Background: ALS is a prototypical disease for the complex provision of assistive devices including orthotics, electromobility and assisted communication. Despite high demand and widespread use, there are no systematic studies on the provision of assistive devices for ALS.

Since April 2011, the provision of medical aids for people with ALS has been realized via AmbulanzPartner. Case management and the digitalization of care processes allow real data on the provision of assistive devices to be recorded. The frequency distribution of ALS-typical aids and the rejection rates by payers were analyzed.

The predominant aids for ALS are orthoses, communication aids and power wheelchairs. The data analysis shows a high rejection rate by payers in individual groups of assistive devices as well as regional differences in care. At Neurowoche 2014, the discussion will focus on the relevance for health policy and the need for research into the high rejection rates by payers.
