What is the significance of genetic diagnostics in ALS?
With the approval of the first genetic drug for a specific form of ALS
with mutations in the SOD1 gene (SOD1-ALS), the era of genetic therapy has begun. As a result, genetic diagnostics have also taken on central importance and are recommended for all those affected. Genetic testing is also increasingly recommended for patients with sporadic ALS, as disease-causing mutations may be present even without a family history of ALS.
