Why and how should ventilation be documented in the ALS app?
The documentation of ventilation in the “ALS app” is important for medical and scientific reasons. It is recorded using the ALS function scale in the ALS app. This is used to document the presence of “mask ventilation” (non-invasive ventilation, NIV) or “artificial ventilation” (tracheotomy with invasive ventilation, TIV).
Sharing information is particularly important as several doctors, medical facilities and care providers are usually involved in the care of an ALS patient. By giving the different doctors shared access to the data in the ALS app (via the app’s connection to the ambulance partner care platform), information about mask ventilation (or a tracheostomy with invasive ventilation) can be shared.
Another advantage of this documentation is the scientific evaluation of ventilation data. The ALS app can be used to scientifically evaluate at what point in the course of ALS ventilation became necessary and what effects ventilation therapy has on the course of the disease.
