Which ALS outpatient clinics use the OPM classification?

Following our last newsletter on the introduction of the OPM classification in the ALS app, we have received numerous queries:

Which ALS outpatient clinics in Germany already use the OPM classification as part of the “NfL study in ALS”?

We are pleased to be able to provide you with a transparent overview.

ALS outpatient clinics that use the OPM classification

The following ALS outpatient clinics are already actively using the OPM classification as part of the “NfL study in ALS”:

  • Charité – University Medicine Berlin
  • University Hospital Bergmannsheil Bochum
  • Bonn University Hospital
  • Alfried Krupp Hospital Essen
  • University Hospital Göttingen
  • Diakovere Henriettenstift Hanover
  • Hanover Medical School
  • Jena University Hospital
  • Leipzig University Hospital
  • University Hospital Schlewig-Holstein, Lübeck Campus
  • University Hospital Münster
  • University Hospital Regensburg

These outpatient clinics use the OPM data to precisely describe the phenotype and to better assess the individual course of the disease.

ALS outpatient clinics that do not currently use the OPM classification

The following university ALS centers do not currently use the OPM classification:

  • University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus Dresden
  • University Hospital Mannheim
  • University Hospital LMU Munich
  • Rostock University Medical Center
  • Ulm University Hospital

What does this mean for you as a patient?

  • If you are being cared for in one of the above-mentioned outpatient clinics that use the OPM classification, your clinical data will already be categorized according to the OPM criteria and displayed in the ALS app.
  • Some centers are not participating in the “NfL study in ALS” and are still observing the developments surrounding the OPM classification with some distance. Experience shows that there is much to suggest that new standards will be adopted everywhere over time – sooner for some, later for others.

If you have any questions about the OPM classification or the “NfL in ALS” study, we will be happy to assist you.
